Ahilyabai Holkar is remembered as one of the greatest women rulers in Indian history and a patron of art, architecture, and culture. Ahilyabai Holkar became the queen of Malwa after her husband, Khanderao Holkar, died in battle in 1754. Despite facing numerous challenges, she proved to be an able administrator and gained respect for her just and compassionate rule. She was a devout Hindu and had a deep reverence for Lord Shiva. She built many temples across her kingdom, including the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and the Vishnu temple in Dwaraka. Ahilyabai Holkar was known for her progressive and inclusive policies. She promoted the rights of women and abolished discriminatory practices like Sati. Her legacy continues to inspire people as a symbol of women's empowerment, good governance, and religious tolerance.
